27 Kodak Moments...

One day, I'm sure I will be doing exciting things in my field of work that people will want to write articles about. But until then, this will more than suffice.

It's a little piece on 27 Kodak Moments on some of my photos which can be found on my flickr (I'm ily416). I love the blog, check it out!

People Driven Indoors by a Gray Sky...

Being from Seattle, I have never been one to run indoors at a weather forecast of rain and a gray sky.

So I was pretty surprised that the entire outdoor campus was empty as I walked back from my class at 4 p.m. At first I didn't get it. Was there some big event going on somewhere else on campus? Was it later than I thought and everyone was at dinner? Was there a shooter on the loose and I had been the last to find out?

No. It was the fact that the weather forecast had promised some rain and the skies were an admittedly foreboding gray.

Sometimes I love the weather here in Orange County. I can put on a pair of shorts and tan these legs that have never been anything other than a pasty white for the past 19 years. It's nice to walk around in the evenings and feel the setting sun warm on your back. But sometimes I just want a little bit of change in the weather, the sky. I want seasons, god dammit!

I will admit, however, that the constant sunshine has done wonders for my energy levels. It gets depressing in Seattle, never seeing the sun and feeling like you're living like a mole person for 10 months of the year. A little vitamin D goes a long way.

As for the school portion of college life, it's going well. I was blessed with getting off of two waitlists into a class I need for my minor (Sociology 101) and a class I need if I were to switch my major (which I still haven't completely figured out yet...). My classes are pretty freaking cool and my professors are some of the most amazing people I've met so far in the film school. Will continue more with that later...

For now, going to go enjoy the sunshine...

Gross...

I have spent way too much money buying my textbooks for school.

$262. I spent $262 buying my textbooks for Spring semester. And that was after going through 3 different websites finding the best used textbook RENTAL deals. Um, what?!

Golly, this "higher education" thing really adds up. I feed all my $20 bills into my student account for laundry as well. >:( I suppose I better double major in order to get my money's worth from this institution...

Grumpily yours,

Back to the Roots of This Blog...

When I started this blog in high school, it was my way of being able to document my journey to college-dom (not a word? Right). It was my quest to figuring out who I am, who "Haewon" is. I was a junior in high school trying to work out what she wanted to do with her life and I, being the naive girl I have always been, thought it would pretty much end with the acceptance letters from college.

But let me tell you, in no way, shape, or form do I feel like I have ANYTHING figured out, nor can I even pretend to know who I am. I see all my university peers working towards concrete goals like their ending point has been ingrained in them from the start. Is that normal? Because if it is, it's a reassurance of something I already know: I am so the opposite of normal.

Whenever I ask other people in the film school what they want to do with their film degrees, they always tell me in these confident voices that they want to work as a film preservationist or at film festivals or they want to be a show runner or at some obscure institute or academy.

If you ask ME what I want to do with my film degree, I couldn't even begin to tell you. In fact, I couldn't even tell you with certainty what my major/majors/minors are. How is it that everyone else seems to have had this figured out a long time ago? Sure, I'm a late bloomer, but...really? REALLY?

I'm really just beating around the bush to let you know that this blog is going to continue until I find myself, or at least a part of myself, because writing is the only way I can work through things. I usually don't even know how I feel until I write it down.

So, here's to more to come!
