The Comeback Kid (or whatever)

As you can tell, I took a little break from this blog. A little 10 month break.

I didn't exactly abandon Haewon or Bust, but I felt like I had spent so much time with it that it was starting to become a place for me to dump my thoughts in a heap without really caring about the quality of what I was writing. But I have a private paper journal for my word vomit and didn't want this to be like that!

I also took some time off so I could write a new travel blog about my semester in Seoul, South Korea, Heart Full of Seoul. I didn't want to put those posts on this blog because I didn't really want you all to find out that I'm actually an alcoholic, and I wanted to try out using WordPress.

But I really missed Haewon or Bust.

It's sort of my platform for saying the things I don't get a chance to say in real life, and it forces me to write in a way that my almost-daily journaling doesn't. Obviously every post isn't meant to be a MASTERPIECE! or professional quality writing, but it forces to me write about things other than boys, how I loathe myself for procrastinating on my schoolwork, and how I am going nowhere in life. Essentially, it forces me to think about the words I am putting down on e-paper.

I've also missed writing just in the most general sense. I always have considered myself a writer (all my scholarships that I have won have been for my writing) and even spent my first two years of undergrad as a screenwriting major. This year, my junior year, is my first year as a film studies major and although I love it, I miss being forced to write for my classes. As painful as it was for overly-shy me to workshop my writing in class, at least it meant that I was writing, thinking critically about my writing, and knew that the fear I felt while presenting my work meant I still cared deeply about my written work. Now, I don't really get that, and I want to feel that again.

This might be a bit of a boring post (because it's quite personal and as much as I hate to admit it, NOBODY REALLY CARES ABOUT WHAT I HAVE TO SAY AS AN INDIVIDUAL), but I wanted to let you know that I'm back.

For a while. Well, for now. That's all I can promise.

I'll be studying abroad again next semester in Italy (BOO, YOU WHORE) so I will keep up with this until I (probably) start a new travel blog for my time in Italy (or just continue using my old one even though it is CLEARLY a reference to me being in Seoul..."Heart Full of Seoul"...I wasn't forward thinking on that one. My bad!).

Now that I've used up my allotted parenthesis for the day, I shall say goodbye until my next (and more entertaining) post.

Hello again to all,

HEY, YA'LL.

I have totally and completely neglected this site, but that is because I think it is time for a FRESH START. I won't take down this blog and will continue to update on occasion (although this is no longer my primary blog). Thank you to everyone who has followed me so far. Stay subscribed for the occasional gem that I promised to give you.

If you want more regular posts, I have a new blog:

Thought Shot

Whereas Haewon or Bust was more about the general ramblings and issues of a high school girl, Thought Shot will be less about my personal life and more articles about college, pop culture, fashion, and general musings about life--there will also be some creative writing!

So follow my new blog. I promise you won't regret it. (Actually, I won't promise that. But take a risk and COME FLY WITH ME.)

Ok. See ya later.

Taylor Swift, Ellen Degeneres, and Aced Midterms...

Can I just brag a little bit and say that I have THE most awesome October in the history of Octobers? This October even beats the time my friend and I traveled to San Francisco for our 18th birthdays.

It started when my college friends and I went crazy one night and realized that we needed to take advantage of the fact that we go to school in SoCal. We decided we wanted to go to a show taping. I had been to two show tapings before (once to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and once to Conan as a part of my TV production class. My professor is friends with the director of Conan so we got to watch the show in the control room and watch the director talk with his crew, direct, and even some of the editing process. Once in a lifetime opportunity!). My friends had never been to a show taping.

We wanted to make sure that we would get tickets and since it can sometimes be kind of iffy, we decided to sign up for tickets for just about every show: Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Tonight Show, Conan, The Voice, etc.

Well, little did we know that we'd get tickets to EVERY SINGLE THING we signed up for (except for the Ellen show, but more on that in a second). We couldn't go to every single one because we happened to get tickets for all these shows in about a two week span of each other in October, but we went to quite a few.

  1. Conan: we got to see the ginger himself, and Andy Richter, who is my favorite. PLUS, the musical guest was ELLIE FREAKIN' GOULDING. She performed "Anything Could Happen" and I died twice and fell in love with her.
  2. Jimmy Kimmel Live: The Jimmy's (Kimmel and Fallon) are probably my favorite late night hosts so I was beyond excited to see Kimmel. He's actually quite handsome in real life. (Show of handsome? If you don't get the reference, watch the video below, PLEASE. It will change your life.) Plus, Guillermo. Guillermo wearing cat ears. 'Nuff said.
  3. The Voice: Ok, this was upsetting. Not going to bash The Voice too much but we went and didn't get to see the show because they wanted us to wait over 4 hours to get in because they had some major troubles with scheduling. It was upsetting and I'm not going to elaborate, but we fixed our awful letdown of not seeing sexy Adam Levine with some retail therapy in L.A.
  4. Taylor Swift and Ellen's Red Release Party: It happened. I was there. Free. Saw T-Swizzle and Ellen on stage. Probably the closest I'll ever come to either of them and it was completely gratis. So awesome. PLUS, I sat right next to Aylin and Lily from The Glee Project and we introduced ourselves and that was my first celebrity sighting EVER.

So needless to say, October was an amazing month. Not to mention that I have left my teens behind and turned 20 in October and my gift from my parents is my very first iPhone! (Yes, I am about thirty years behind the times and still have a phone with a keyboard. Don't judge. My iPhone shall be here soon and I will join the rest of civilization.) And I also left midterms behind in October and ACED them all!

OH AND ALSO, I was officially accepted into my study abroad program for the spring semester. I'll be in SEOUL by the end of February!

Yes, October was grande. Now, I just need to survive the next four weeks until Thanksgiving break and everything will be just perfect.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN ERRRYONE!
